The Union government will release a commemorative coin of Rs 20 and a stamp of the same value to mark 20 years of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit (VGGS) on the first day of the summit, Additional Chief Secretary (Industries and Mines) S J Haider told the media on Wednesday in the presence of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.
A gazette notification in this regard was issued Tuesday, he added. The summit is set to be held between January 10 and 12.
In a first, the state government will provide an “enabling platform” through the summit for “smaller states” to attract investments. Haider told The Indian Express that 10 states had confirmed participation, which include states from North East and Madhya Pradesh. “It works both ways, sometimes they approach us and sometimes we approach them (to be part of the investment summit)”, he said.
Calling the 10th edition of VGGS the “first in the Amrit Kaal”, Haider said that the summit, apart from being a flagship event of the Gujarat government, has now been emulated by several other states. So far, 35 countries have confirmed their partnership for the mega business event. Kazakhstan, East Timor, and Uzbekistan have given verbal confirmation. “We do not call everyone to be partners…so of the 40-odd we have reached out to, 35 have confirmed”, said Haider.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who launched the first edition of the VGGS in 2003, will arrive on January 9 in the state to be part of the Global Trade Show that will kick off the three-day summit. Union Minister for Co-operatives and Home Amit Shah will address the valedictory event on January 12, said sources. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will attend at least three of the events of the summit.
