Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Shankersinh Vaghela has demanded that duration of the monsoon session of the state Assembly be kept long enough to ensure that the elected representatives got adequate time to ask questions and hold debates on important issues.
He has made the demand in two separate letters sent to state Governor Kamla Beniwal and Assembly Speaker Vajubhai Vala.
Addressing mediapersons here on Wednesday,Vaghela said it was ridiculous that the second session of the state Assembly was convened only for a few hours in one day or two days on a short notice, without holding mandatory question-answer sessions. Vaghela said the short duration deprived legislators of their right to ask questions in the state assembly.
He said the second session of the state Assembly is held after a gap of six months and hence its duration must be sufficient to allow question-answer sessions and also to hold debates on important issues with participation of legislators.
He also criticised the Narendra Modi government for not appointing a deputy speaker of the Assembly for the last one decade.
