Vadodara-based NGO,All In Development (AID),kicked off its project,Plantathon, planting 5,000 saplings at the Air Force Station in Darjipura on the occasion of Van Mahotsava.

The NGO,in association with the local Air Force Wives Welfare Association, organised the programme that aims to create awareness among citizens to plant and preserve trees.

Apart from the exercise of planting saplings,AID is also pushing for a Tree Audit to be introduced,so that a count of the trees is maintained.

Ami Ravat,Executive Director of AID,said the need was to have a department that would keep track of the number of trees growing and surviving in the city.

“There should be a count of trees in every premises and a report should be maintained. If the count of the trees reduces, the owner should be held responsible. There should be no permission to fell trees in the name of construction or development,” said Ravat.
