To man the security of pilgrims during the 136th Jagannath Rath Yatra on July 10,the Ahmedabad police will put the newly bought Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) to use,said Gujarat DGP Amitabh Pathak Saturday while outlining the security arrangements made by the state police.
The Gujarat Police recently bought two UAVs at the cost of Rs 110 lakh. Police officials said the UAVs will be kept at the venue of the rath yatra. However,it might not be used in case of incessant rain. The state has deployed 10 companies of the central forces for the security. Around 132 rath yatras will roll out from various cities and districts on Wednesday.
Briefing the press in Gandhinagar,Pathak said,A total of 42 State Reserve Police Force companies have been deployed. Fourteen companies in Ahmedabad and one in Vadodara and Bhavnagar each have been deployed. Four SRP companies have been reserved for emergency. All precautions have been taken to ensure the rath yatra passes smoothly in the state. We have alerted the Indian Army to be vigilant on July 10.
The state ATS has been asked to monitor the security of the rath yatra closely across the state. Twenty CCTV cameras have been allotted to Ahmedabad Police to be placed in sensitive areas. The Ahmedabad city control room will keep 24-hour watch from the control room. Two companies of bomb disposal squad and a dog squad have been deployed on the rath yatra route in Ahmedabad.
DIG A K Jadeja and DIG S M Katara have been specially handed over the charge of security in Ahmedabad and Surat cities respectively. In addition to the Ahmedabad polices own force,the DGP has extended additional force from various districts for Ahmedabad.
According to police,the peace committee meetings and a dialogue with various community heads was conducted by the police officers to seek co-operation for the event. The locals have been asked to contact state control room and city/district control room numbers in cases of emergency.
The entire state police force will be on standby on the day of rath yatra. The Ahmedabad Crime Branch will provide security for the moving bandobast,securing the three main chariots ? elephant raths,trucks and bhajan mandalis. The Quick Response Teams and Chetak commandos of the state police have been deployed for patrolling across the city during the event.
