Two sculptures from M S University’s fine arts faculty will travel to Brussels to be displayed at the Body of Indian Art,an exhibition being organised by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) in October this year.

The sculptures, which are currently in a museum at faculty’s museology department,is said to belong to the first half of the ninth century, and were discovered by a former member of the museology faculty from Vadaval village in Banaskantha in 1959.

This is the first time after nearly three decades that two of the eight sculptures collected at the department museum will travel to an international exhibition. Earlier, three sculptures,Vinodhara,Siva, and Varahi, had travelled to various exhibitions organised in the USA by the National Gallery of Arts during 1981-82,a senior faculty member said. The two sculptures that are being sought by the ICCR are titled Indrani and Varahi, and are among sculptures put up on display at the department museum.
