Amreli police arrested two Patidar youths for their alleged involvement in posting objectionable comments on the Facebook page of a distant relative of former state minister for Agriculture and BJP leader Dilip Sanghani. One of the accused, Hitendra alias Hitu Patel, who runs an embroidery unit in Katargam in Surat, was picked up by the Surat crime branch and handed over to Amreli district police. Another Patidar was arrested from Kalavad city in Jamnagar on Friday afternoon for the same offence.
A day after the results of local bodies were announced in different districts, Gatu Ramani who is a distant relative of the former minister and a resident of Amreli district, had uploaded a picture of Sanghani on his own Facebook page. Police sources said that Hitendra alias Hitu Patel, Hitesh Dudhat, Feroz Bhatti, Nikunj Dobariya, Jitu Nashit, Sanjay Rupapara, Jitu and others, had posted objectionable comments on it. Sanghani’s nephew Kamlesh Sanghani lodged police complaint in this connection against the accused persons and an offence was registered under IPC section 504, IT act 2003 section 66 (A) sub section (B).
Acting on the complaint, Amreli police started investigations and found that Hitu Patel, runs an embroidery business and lives in Surat. Surat crime branch sleuths had on Thursday night arrested Hitu from his house in Katargam area and intimated Amreli police about it.
A team of Amreli police took custody of Hitu Patel from Surat while Jamnagar police also had arrested Jitu Nashit and had handed him to Amreli police.
Circle police inspector of Amreli Pravin Chaudhary said, “Gatu Ramani had in good faith uploaded photo of Dilip Sanghani on his facebook page on 3rd December. Some of his friends had put objectionable comments on it. Gatu is also a cousin of Kamlesh Sanghani. We have till now arrested two youths in this connection while search is on for the remaining accused.”
