Two killed,two hurt in building collapse

Two persons were killed and as many injured Friday when the balcony of an old four-storey building,located at Bhatiyar Gali in Teen Darwaza area of the old city,collapsed on them.

Two persons were killed and as many injured Friday when the balcony of an old four-storey building,located at Bhatiyar Gali in Teen Darwaza area of the old city,collapsed on them.

“Two persons died and two others were injured after the balcony of a building collapsed on them when they were standing on the ground floor,” Karanj police Sub-Inspector I N Ghasura said.

According to fire officials,the locals rushed the four victims to VS Hospital where two of them,identified as Akbar Qureshi (30) and Dinesh Makwana (25),employees of Nishant Hotel in nearby area,were declared brought dead. The two others,identified as Iqbal Sheikh and Ramu Bachulal,were shifted to the ICU of the hospital,police said.

The Karanj police have registered a case of accidental death and begun further investigations.

Two held for extortion bid

The Gandhinagar police on Friday arrested two men who allegedly posed as animal husbandry department officials to extort money from an official of Mehsana Doodh Sagar dairy.

The two,identified as Sameer Bhayani of Vejalpur and Said Hathjila of Khanpur in Ahmedabad,had allegedly asked for Rs 2 lakh from livestock supervisor Bhagwan Desai of Mehsana’s Doodh Sagar dairy at Sherisa village after threatening to implicate him in a case,said Inspector B N Dave of Kalol police station.

The duo had collected Rs 25,000 from Desai and were threatening him to give Rs 1.75 lakh more,police said.

Desai instead complained to police,which laid a trap and arrested the duo when they visited the former’s village to collect the remaining amount,police said,adding that a Maruti Santro they had come in was also seized.
