Two men posing as policemen allegedly kidnapped a Class XII student and his friend from Keshod town of Junagadh district, but the police rescued the victims within a few hours on Monday night. A local court sent the accused duo to judicial custody for 14 days on Tuesday evening.
Keshod police said Kiran Sutreja (17),the Class XII student and his friend Shakti Agath, who has completed B.Ed.,were kidnapped by two men on motorbike from a locality near Gayatri Mandir at around 8:45 pm. Sutreja and Agath were on their way to meet their friend. Sutreja stopped his bike to talk to a friend on phone and walked for some distance. At that time,Pankaj and Ashwin came riding their bike. Pankaj identified himself to be from Crime Branch and asked Sutreja to accompany him to a place with his bike, Keshod police sub-inspector Nitirajsinh Jadeja said on Tuesday.
Meanwhile,Ashwin instructed Agath to ride pillion of his bike and the duo took the students near Kareni. The kidnappers forced the students to drink some alcohol and later threatened to fix them in a prohibition case. To avoid that, the duo demanded Rs 8,000, Jadeja, who is investigating the case, said.
But Sutreja, son of a local builder, told the kidnappers that he did not carry that much cash and asked to be allowed to contact his family members. He informed a friend on WhatsApp that he had been kidnapped, police said.
