The police arrested two persons, owners of a private trust, from Ghatlodia in Ahmedabad on Sunday for allegedly duping around 1,150 devotees who were promised a visit to Janakpur in Nepal for Ram Katha.

The accused have been identified as Natu Patel and his son Dipak who run Lokseva Vichar Trust in Ghatlodia.

The police said the two accused had collected Rs 8,000-9,000 from each devotee for taking them to a religious function in Nepal.

However, when the devotees reached the Ahmedabad railway station for scheduled departure, they got to know that there was no reservation in their names.

The police have registered a case of cheating and fraud against them and started an investigation.
