Two students of the Gujarat National Law University (GNLU),Gandhinagar, have published a book on Intellectual Property and copyright laws. Final-year students Akhil Prasad and Aditi Agarwal have published a 400-page book,‘Copyright Law Desk Book- Knowledge,Access and Development’,which was released by Justice R M Lodha of the Supreme Court at the Indian Law Institute,New Delhi on April 23. The book has been appreciated by 10 eminent legal authorities from the US,the UK,The Netherlands and South-East Asia.

A world-renowned authority on IP law,Prof Sylvia Kierkegaard, has written the foreword of the book, which also has a special message by eminent author and legal practitioner of IP law,Rodney D Ryder.

Giving details of the book,Akhil said,“It’s an effort dealing with the role and relevance of IP and copyright laws in today’s society, pertaining to both public as well as private interests.”

The book is of academic interest, and is a commentary on contemporary state of affairs in copyright laws. Efforts are on to send it to the World Intellectual Property Organization also,he added.

Aditi, his co-author,added,“The book is divided into four parts. The first part deals with IP laws, the second attempts to trace the history of copyright laws and the third is a concept commentary.” The last part is the most interesting,as it mentions three case studies dealing with issues of IP among the visually challenged,Google’s copyright lawsuit and the most contentious issue of worldwide peer-to-peer file sharing, said the authors.

The two students, who will be passing out from GNLU in two weeks, have appeared for the GMAT exam and are planning to pursue an MBA course in a reputed foreign university.
