The Crime Branch of Ahmedabad Police Thursday arrested a man accused of luring the families of minor girls in Bangladesh with the prospect of a job, trafficking them to India and then thrusting them into sex trade in Gujarat.
The Crime Branch arrested 26-year-old Sagar Milan Mandal, a native of North 24 Parganas in West Bengal, from a rented apartment in the Vastral area. The police also found two minor girls in the house.
Upon probing the girls’ identities and speaking to their mothers in Bangladesh, the officials learnt that Mandal and his Bangladesh accomplice, Mohammedkarim Abdulkarim Mandal, approached the families of the minors about two-and-a-half-months ago offering jobs for their daughters in Ahmedabad.

Sagar has been booked under BNS sections 64 and 64 (2-M) for committing rape, 143 (recruits, transports, harbours, transfers persons for exploitation), 144 (engaging in sexual exploitation knowing that the child has been trafficked) and 54 (presence of abettor when crime is committed), sections 4 and 5 of the Immoral Traffic Prevention Act, as well as sections 3(a), 4, 5(l), 6 11(6) and 12 of the POCSO Act.
