Three-day Surat textile expo begins, over 100 exhibitors participate

The three-day Surat International Textile Expo (SITEX) 2024, displaying the latest textile machinery, commenced on Saturday.

Sources said over 100 exhibitors from different parts of the country, involved in manufacturing textile machinery, are participating in the expo being held at Surat International Exhibition and Convention Centre of Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) – which is organising the event – at Sarsana.

Addressing the expo, Additional Commissioner (Textiles) S P Verma said, “In the last four years, we have disbursed Rs 20,000 crore under Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme (TUFS)… Also, in the last four years, textile machinery worth over Rs 20,000 crore were imported from China, Germany, Belgium, Japan, Indonesia and Vietnam, among others… Further, textile machinery worth Rs 14,000 crore has been exported from India…”

Calling Surat the hub of man-made fibre (MMF) textile, SGCCI president Ramesh Vaghasia said, “By 2047, India will become a fully developed country and the economy will grow 10 times. With this, there will be a rise in the demand for garments in the next two decades.”

SGCCI exhibition committee chairman Bijal Jariwala said, “The SITEX had played an important role in the growth of south Gujarat. This year, over 15,000 visitors have registered for this exhibition. We are expecting visitors from neighbouring countries like Bangladesh and Sri Lanka as well.”
