A hotelier who went missing a few months ago after allegedly duping several persons by promising them high returns for investments in his resorts project was on Friday arrested along with his brother from their residence by the Detection of Crime Branch (DCB).

Rajesh Thakkar, who owns Gopi Dining Hall in the city, had gone “missing” on December 27. The next day,his elder brother Dilip Thakkar even filed a missing complaint with the police, saying Rajesh had left behind a note stating that “he was compelled to go away from the city as he was facing financial woes”.

In the meantime, one Praful Thakkar filed a police complaint on May 15 alleging Rajesh had duped him of Rs 80 lakh that he had invested in Balram Resorts at Palanpur owned jointly by the two brothers. The complaint also claimed that several persons from other states were similarly lured into investing in the project and duped by the two brothers.

Suspecting that Rajesh could have staged his disappearance — his brother Dilip had told police that Rajesh was not reachable on his phone — a DCB team raided their residence today and arrested the two brothers.
