Over 1,500 members of the Thakore community on Monday marched to the collectors office here with their demand for 15 per cent reservation in government jobs within the 33 per cent quota for OBCs.
Community leaders alleged that despite constituting 40 per cent of the states population, the two-and-a-half crore Thakores were not given due representation in the state administration.
They claimed similar rallies were held in districts of Patan,Banaskantha,Sabarkantha,Porbandar,Jamnagar and Surendranagar.
In the next three months,we plan to extend out stir to whole of Gujarat. If our demands are not met,we will sit on a hunger strike in front of CM Narendra Modis office in Gandhinagar, said Navgangi Manaji Thakor, who is spearheading the movement as one of the leaders of the Shri Thakore Vikas Vijay Sankalp Yatra.
I have accepted their memorandum and will forward it to the government, said Mehsanas district collector Rajkumar Beniwal.
Last month,Thakore leaders in the Gandhinagar unit of the Congress had taken on the party leadership alleging the community was not being given its due in the party.
