Swine flu claims 3 lives in a week in Ahmedabad

11 deaths due to H1N1 since January 1

Swine flu claimed three lives in Ahmedabad in the first week of February, following eight deaths in the city last month due to H1N1 infection. As many as 56 cases of swine flu have been reported so far in 2016.

A 70-year-old woman from Juhapura, a 55-year-old woman from Naroda and a 60-year-old man from Shahibaug were the latest victims of the virus.

According to AMC’s Medical Officer (Health) Dr Bhavin Solanki, four patients in the city recently have been tested positive for H1N1 and they are undergoing treatment.

Apart from swine flu cases, the city witnessed a spurt water-borne diseases. As many as 56 cases of typhoid were reported in the last six days, besides 96 instances of diarrhoea and 65 of jaundice.

From January 1 till February 6, as many as 221 people have been reported suffering from typhoid, while 486 people and 346 people had diarrhoea and jaundice.
Also, the city witnessed an increase in cases vector-borne diseases such as malaria (45) and dengue (17).
