The two professors of Surat’s Sardar Vallabhbhbai National Institute of Technology (SVNIT), who were accused of sexual harassment, have been dismissed by the institute’s Board of Governors (BOG). Both the professors were found guilty of sexual harassment at workplace. The meeting of the Board of Governors was held in Pune on Wednesday which decided to dismiss associate professors Dr Ranjit Roy and Dr Vivekananda Mishra. The meeting was headed by chairperson Jaya Palvalkar. Dr Mishra failed to convince the board members.
Following the brief discussion among the members regarding allegations made by the Internal College Committee (ICC), the chairperson, after taking consent of all the members, finally passed the order to dismiss both the accused associate professors.
A copy of the dismissal order was given to both the accused professors, who are currently staying in the premises of SVNIT, on Friday evening. Now, the duo cannot join any government educational institution. Sources said to challenge the BOG order, the duo have to either approach the Rashtrapati Bhavan or go to the Judiciary.
SVNIT director Dr P D Porey said, “We have given dismissal order to both the associate professors on Friday. They were found guilty in the Board of Governors’ meeting and even their replies to the showcause notice were not convincing. We will file caveat before the Gujarat High court in the coming days.”
In response to the dismissal, Roy told this paper, “I will uncover the truth in the coming days and everybody will know about it. Please give me some time, the truth will come out. We have decided our future course of action and we will work on it.”
