On Wednesday, Trivedi was produced before the Surat district court, which sent him to police remand for three days.

The arrest was made based on a complaint filed by a family member of a jail inmate with Surat police. Police sources said that the accused, posing as a lawyer, had collected the phone numbers of the family members of jail inmates Jay Dangar, Paresh Kachhadiya and Smit Dholakia, and called their family members. Identifying himself as the jailor of Surat central jail, he demanded Rs 15, 000 from each person to provide facilities such as tiffin services and mattresses to the inmates. The trio was arrested by the Surat police a few days ago for demanding a ransom of Rs. 10 crore from a builder.

On Wednesday, another person filed a complaint against Trivedi with Mahidharpura police station on Wednesday. In his complaint, Mazhar Saiyed, a restaurant owner and resident of Zampa Bazaar, said that his brother-in-law is lodged in Surat central jail. On November 16, he received a call and the caller identified himself as the superintendent of Surat Central Jail ‘Yusuf Malek’. The caller told him that tiffin and other facilities were provided to his brother-in-law, Salman, and for that, he has to pay Rs 9,000 on Google Pay on the same number. Mazhar reached Surat central Jail the next day and found that there was no officer by the name Yusuf Malek at the jail.
