Surat city BJP leader Kadar Wadiwala allegedly got “threats” via text message from wanted gangster Ejaz Lakdawala.
As per police sources, the text message read: “Mere phone ka jawab nahi dega to bheje mein lagengi” (If you don’t return my calls, you will be shot in the head).
Soon after receiving the message, Wadiwala, who runs a CNG petrol pump at Chowk Bazaar area and is also a property dealer, met Surat Police Commissioner Satish Sharma on Monday and showed him the message. A complaint was lodged by Surat city crime branch soon after.
As per the complaint, the BJP leader alleged that he had initially received three calls on October 25 and then on October 28 from the same number. When he did not return the calls, Wadiwala received the text message in which the sender identified himself as Ejaz Lakdawala.
Police commissioner Sharma said: “Our crime branch is investigating the case about the threat message Kadar Wadiwala has received. We offered him security cover but he refused.”
Talking to The Indian Express, Wadiwala said, “The reason for not answering the calls from the number with the code 0013 was because I thought that it might be from some fraud company. I tried to return the calls on October 25, but I could not get connected. I was shocked after receiving the threat message on October 28. So I contacted the police commissioner and later registered a complaint. I have no enemy and I am not a big property dealer, which might attract the underworld people to threaten me.”
