Wrapping up her three-day visit to Gujarat,Indian-American astronaut Sunita Williams on Saturday urged youths in the state to take voting seriously and vote responsibly.
Responding to questions from students at Gujarat Technological University (GTU),Sunita said she had herself voted through absentee ballot in US presidential elections of November 2012.
Asked by a female student about the relationship between science and spirituality, she said,I think there is actually a lot that goes hand in hand between science and spirituality.
Talking about her space voyages, she said,…I realised there is something bigger and something stronger, even more than we can imagine to think to harness,to understand. I could not help but think,O my God, and held on a little tighter.
Sunita was also conferred honorary doctorate degree by GTU vice-chancellor Akshai Aggarwal.
Sunita left for the US after the GTU function.
During her visit to the state,Williams did not meet CM Narendra Modi, whose office reportedly had tried to reach out to her.
During her last visit to the state in 2007,she had met Modi.
At an event on Friday night,Williams was flanked by Dilip Parikh, who was CM under Shankersinh Vaghela’s Rashtriya Janata Party (RJP),which later merged with the Congress, and Urmila Patel ,former Congress union minister and wife of former CM Chimanbhai Patel.
