The state government is preparing a memorandum of demands,including a relief package for farmers,that will be given to Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar on August 3 during his visit to Gujarat.
As monsoon continues to play truant,Chief Secretary A K Joti chaired a high-level meeting on Monday to review the drought-like situation in the state.
The government will brief the Union minister on the drought-like situation in the state and also demand a relief package for farmers and affected people, said sources in the government.
The government is likely to declare semi-drought or drought on or before August 3.
As per the revenue manual definition,if the state does not receive sufficient rain till July 31,then it is technically considered as drought.
