The state government is preparing a memorandum of demands, including a relief package for farmers, that will be given to Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar on August 3 during his visit to Gujarat.

As monsoon continues to play truant,Chief Secretary A K Joti chaired a high-level meeting on Monday to review the drought-like situation in the state.

“The government will brief the Union minister on the drought-like situation in the state and also demand a relief package for farmers and affected people,” said sources in the government.

The government is likely to declare semi-drought or drought on or before August 3.

As per the revenue manual definition,if the state does not receive sufficient rain till July 31,then it is technically considered as drought.
