Premier Mike Rann meets CM Modi,industry captains
South Australian Premier Mike Rann visited the state on Thursday and held interactive sessions with captains of trade and industry as well as Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
He also had an exclusive session with industry leaders under the aegis of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) here during the day.
During his meeting with Modi,Rann evinced interest in partnering with the state for mutual trade investments. Rann showed interest in the states initiatives in tackling issues of environment,especially in the field of solar energy,and discussed the possibilities of building ties in the field.
Rann said he was here to solicit investments in South Australia and vice verse,especially in the mining sector and in renewable energy. He said South Australia had a target of sourcing 20 per cent of its power requirement from renewable energy.
He said India had graduated from being the sixth biggest to third biggest trade partner with South Australia in five years and that it was poised to become number one in coming times.
The other areas that Rann was keen to explore for partnerships with Gujarat include education and skill development,biotechnology,advanced engineering,life sciences,information communication technology,food processing,water and automobiles.
He said he would also hold separate meetings with Adani group chairman Gautam Adani and Tata Group chairman Ratan Tata.
Australian Consul General Steve Waters and South Australian governments senior Trade Commissioner A K Tareen were also present during the interaction with media along with Piyush Shah,vice-chairman of CII Gujarat State Council.
