1-year-old son of construction worker couple mauled by stray dog, dies after 20 days in Surat
The boy was sleeping near a construction site where his parents were working when the dog pulled him from the cradle and mauled him.
The police reached the hospital after learning about the death. They took statements from the parents and started a probe after registering an accidental death case.
Mohan Mali and his wife Sheela were hoping for a miracle for the last 20 days. However, the construction labourer couple’s hopes were crushed on Sunday as their 1-year-old son, Gunjan Mali, succumbed to the injuries he suffered after a stray dog mauled him at Palsana in Surat on June 3.
As per details from the Palsana police, Gunjan was sleeping near a construction site where his parents were working at the Tatathaiya village when the dog pulled him from the cradle and mauled him. Hearing the cry, Mohan rushed to the spot and rescued his severely injured son from the dog.
Gunjan was rushed to a private hospital for treatment and later shifted to Surat Municipal Corporation-SMIMER Hospital. The doctors of SMIMER Hospital said Gunjan underwent surgery for severe head and facial injuries, including damage to one eye from a dog bite. Despite treatment in the pediatric ICU, he passed away, they said.
The police reached the hospital after learning about the death. They took statements from the parents and started a probe after registering an accidental death case.
A police official said, “We will also gather statements from the construction site supervisor and owner to obtain more details. The couple was working at the construction site and staying in a tent where they had placed a cradle for their only son, Gunjan. Based on the statements of the construction site owner and supervisor, we will determine our next action.”
