The Gujarat High Court on Monday granted bail to two constables who were arrested in May 2007 by state CID in connection with the 2005 Sohrabuddin Sheikh encounter case.

The constables,Santram Sharma and Ajay Parmar, were earlier given a clean chit by the CBI,which did not object to the bail today. CBI counsel Yogesh Ravani said they were not accused in the case.

Advocate Punit Juneja, who appeared for the constables, said bail was granted since they were given a clean chit by CBI on the ground that they only followed the orders of their superiors.

Juneja said that after the CBI took over investigation from the CID in January 2010 and subsequently filed a chargesheet,it didn’t find any involvement of the constables in the encounter.
