Slaughterhouses to remain shut from August 31 to September 8

The slaughterhouses and shops selling mutton, chicken and fish among other non vegetarian food items will remain closed from August 31 to September 8 on the eve of Paryushan (annual Jain festival) and for a day on September 17 (Jain Samvatsari).

The decision was taken according to the resolution passed by  Surat Municipal Corporation standing committee in 2008, acting on the Supreme Court’s order of March 11, 2008. During these days, all non-vegetarian shops falling in the Surat Municipal Corporation limit will remain closed. Strict legal actions will be taken against the violators.
