In a failed SBI ATM robbery attempt a security guard was reportedly killed by four unidentified persons in Ankleshwar area of Bharuch district on Wednesday night.
According to reports, four unidentified persons went to the SBI ATM centre in Wadi area at Sajod village in Ankleshwar taluka on Wednesday night. The miscreants reportedly fired one round on security guard Kamlesh Gandharv injuring him severely and entered into the ATM centre.
While the miscreants were busy in breaking the ATM,two youths, returning home after attending a marriage function, informed the villagers about the incident.
Within couple of minutes,a group of around 50 villagers turned up to the spot. Seeing the gathering, the miscreants reportedly fired one round in air and escaped in dark.
The security guard was rushed to a nearby hospital where after preliminary treatment he was declared dead.
The villagers later informed the police about the incident and Forensic Science Laboratory officials also reached the spot on Thursday morning.
Village Sarpanch Alpesh Patel lodged a complaint in this connection with Ankleshwar rural police station.
The investigating officer R L Mawani said,After talking to villagers we have come to know that the miscreants might be some tribals as they had put on turban on their heads. We suspect that the security guard might have stopped them following which they fired on him from point blank range. The miscreants tried to break the ATM. We are trying to identify the gang involved in such incident.
