With a further rollback of Rs 300 by the school management, the fee hike issue at Memnagars H B Kapadia New High School was resolved on Monday. The school took the decision under constant pressure from parents in a meeting held between the trustees, school authorities and parents.
On June 27,after a major clash between parents and school authorities, the school had declared a rollback of Rs 300,followed by a slash of Rs 700. Thus, the total rollback in the fee hike is now Rs 1,300.
The matter has been resolved. Out of a total hike of Rs 2,060 from the previous year school fee,the school has agreed to roll back Rs 1,300. Thus, the total hike this year is calculated to be Rs 760 only, said District Primary Education Officer (DPEO) M M Jani.
It was after the intervention of DPEO when the school management agreed to a total rollback of Rs 1,000. The parents had objected to an annual hike of nearly Rs 2,100 and
additional charges of facilities like smart boards.
The school authorities, however, expressed fear that some parents would demand a rollback of the entire amount of hike. Most of the parents have agreed to the decision taken in the meeting, but there seemed to be a few who would be demanding a complete rollback of the hike, revealed Renu Seth, principal of the English medium section.
The major bone of contention among parents and school authorities pertaining to the fee hike was the smart board facility. This year, the school decided to make it compulsory for all the students from pre-school till Class IX.
Though this facility was optional till previous year, this year, students were asked to pay an additional amount of Rs 1,350 per year for the smart boards. This is applicable to the English medium section of the school.
