Reservation, caste census among demands at protest in Gandhinagar

(Representational Image) To protest ‘injustice’ and ‘discrimination’ against people from Other Backward Classes (OBC), Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Classes, and minority communities in the state, a Swabhiman Dharana programme was held at Satyagrah Chhavani in Gandhinagar Tuesday under the aegis of OBC Jan Adhikar Samiti (OJAS).
In the public meeting that was attended by senior Congress leaders like Amit Chavda, Shaktisinh Gohil, Jagdish Thakor, Arjun Modhwadia, Lalji Desai, and Jignesh Mevani various demands of the people from OBC, SC, ST, and minority communities were put forward.
These demands include a caste-based census, publication of the report of Justice (retired) K S Jhaveli Commission and providing 27 per cent reservation to OBC communities in elections of local bodies, 27 per cent allocation of funds for OBC in the budget, and formation of OBC Sub Plan and implementation of reservation in cooperative institutes for Scheduled Tribe, Scheduled Caste, OBC, and minorities.
