The police booked a teenage boy from Odhav in an attempt to rape complaint and arrested two persons in an incident of stone-pelting,on Sunday.
According to the details available,the accused (16) a resident of Bileshwar Estate in Odhav allegedly took his neighbour (8) to his terrace and attempted to rape her.
Inspector D S Patel from Odhav police said: The victims father went in search of her on their terrace when he saw the accused trying to rape her. He ran towards the boy but he escaped. He is an eye-witness and we have asked the family to go for a medical test.
The people in the neighbourhood gathered outside the house of the accused and reportedly fought with his parents. The girls family and her neighbours then went to the Odhav police station to lodge a complaint.
They alleged that the police were not filing the complaint and pelted stones at the police station,damaging some police vans. The police retaliated with a lathicharge and arrested two persons.
Patel said: The family alleged that the police was not accepting their complaint,but the officer had filed their complaint within a few hours of the incident. We have lodged a complaint of attempt to rape (Section 354 of IPC). The mob went out of control,and when the police stopped them,they resorted to stone-pelting. We had to resort to a lathicharge to disperse the crowd.
Patel added that the accused will be charged under the Juvenile Justice Act,and that a case of rioting has been registered against two persons for pelting stones at the police.
