Gujarat confidential: Do Not Mourn
RMC standing committee on Tuesday approved a proposal to double the bicycle allowance to Rs 400 per month for those peons who use their bicycles for office work
The Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) has decided to double the monthly bicycle allowance it gives to its peons. In a letter to the Vadodara mayor, BJP corporators Ashish Joshi, Parul Patel, Punam Shah and Snehal Patel have said that the VMC “must not adjourn” its General Board meeting “to mourn” their deaths. This comes days after VMC ignored the request of late Congress leader and former deputy mayor Chirag Zaveri’s wife to not adjourn the General Board meeting as a “homage” to the departed leader.
The BJP corporators wrote, “It has been a practice of VMC to pay homage to victims of tragedies and departed elected representatives by adjourning the proceedings of the General Board. Since April 1, 2024, 50 per cent of the General Board meetings have been adjourned in mourning and so there is a feeling that this practice needs to change.”
Double Allowance
The Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) has decided to double the monthly bicycle allowance it gives to its peons. The RMC had increased the bicycle allowance from Rs 150 to Rs 200 in 2011.
Its standing committee on Tuesday approved a proposal to double the bicycle allowance to Rs 400 per month for those peons who use their bicycles for office work. The proposal underlined that a hike was warranted due to inflation.
