Stung by criticism over the actual success rate of MoUs signed in the past four Vibrant Gujarat summits that failed to be anywhere near the hyped figures, the Gujarat government has rejected at least 12 per cent of the MoUs proposed in its fifth summit this year, finding them non-serious.
Maheshar Sahoo,Principal Secretary,Gujarat Industries and Mines, said at the end of the opening day of the summit: We formed a special committee before the summit and 10-12 per cent of the MoUs were rejected after scrutiny.
Sahoo added that the weeding out process was spread over two months before the summit.
He was evasive when questioned if the weeding out exercise was introduced this year in the wake of exposes of the meets past records.
The Indian Express had exposed the actual success rate of the Vibrant Gujarat summit held in year 2009,which was just about one-third of the Gujarat governments claim on success rates.
Sahoo refused to comment on the success log of the earlier meets. Learning is a continuous exercise, he said.
Shaktisinh Gohil, the former Opposition leader in the Assembly, had questioned the success rate of the past vibrant Gujarat summits listing specific projects, especially in the power sector, which remain non-starters till date.
