The City police on Sunday arrested five people for robbing a city courier firm to the tune of Rs 14.89 lakh last week. Those arrested include a former partner in the firm.
A security guard named Hakma was injured in the incident that occurred around mid-night on February 18. Four masked men had trespassed into the office of B K Angadia in the Ghasi Ram Ni Pol area at Khadia and attacked Hakma with a knife and decamped with Rs 14.89 lakh.
The police said that Rajasthan-based Jagdish Prajapati is the prime accused and the alleged mastermind,who had conducted a recce two days prior to the incident. He then hired a few professionals from Vadodara to help him execute the crime.
A team of the Ahmedabad City Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) arrested Prajapati and his four accomplices,Soma Debarthi (Ahmedabad),Vijay Prajapati,Kalu and Manoj (all three from Vadodara),on Sunday. The sixth accused,one Amar from Vadodara,is still at large.

Inspector Bharat Patel of the DCB said Prajapati is distantly related to the owner of the firm,one Shankar Prajapati. Jagdish was one of the partners in the firm until three months ago,when he was fired because of a tiff between the two, Patel added.
Involvement of an insider was very obvious and Jagdish seemed to be the jitteriest insider. We questioned him and he broke down, Patel added.
