Two days after seven residents of Surat were feared drowned in the Narmada river at Poicha, rescue personnel from the Narmada district fire department and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) retrieved three more bodies on Thursday. Search is now on to retrieve the seventh body that is yet to be traced.
On Thursday, rescue personnel retrieved the bodies of Bharat Badaliya, 45, and his two sons Arnav, 14, and Maitraksh, 15 – all residents of Surat. The NDRF had retrieved the fourth body of Vraj Badaliya, 11, late on Wednesday evening while the bodies of Bhavesh and Bhargav Hadiya were recovered on Wednesday afternoon.

The 6BN NDRF from Vadodara had rushed two teams to assist in the operations at Poicha, along with three teams of the Narmada fire department. According to officials, the three bodies recovered on Thursday had been swept away up to three kilometres from the point where the group had slipped into the water, due to the river current.
Seven members of a picnic group, including six minors, from Surat, were feared drowned in the Narmada river at Poicha of Narmada district after being swept away on Tuesday. Local divers rescued one of the eight who had stepped into the river for a dip. The point where the group had drowned is the meeting point of the Narmada and Orsang rivers – both of which are known to be infested with crocodiles.
