Who is the vice-chancellor of Gujarat University? If one goes by the information uploaded on rajbhavan.gujarat.gov.in,the official website of the Governor,it is Parimal Trivedi.
But Trivedi demitted the office about one and a half years ago and returned to his parent institution where he teaches physics. In fact,Trivedis successor Adesh Pal also left the university in August. GU currently has an in-charge Vice-Chancellor,Dr Mukul Shah, who is a physician-turned-politician.
Such blunders are there in case of all government universities about whom information is uploaded on the Raj Bhawans website. Interestingly, the website claims to have been updated as recently as September 16.
Though Manoj Soni gave up office of MS University in July 2008 and is currently V-C of Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar Open University,he is still mentioned as MSU V-C on the website. After Soni,Ramesh Goyal had taken over as the V-C; he was replaced by incumbent Yogesh Singh.
Similarly,B A Prajapati is shown as acting V-C of Hemchandracharya North Gujarat University,Patan. Prajapati was acting V-C in 2006 and since then the university has had two V-Cs. The current V-C is R L Godara, who joined on September 15.
The name of the V-C of states agriculture university at Anand has not been updated either. M C Varshneya, who retired more than two years ago,is still mentioned as the V-C though the current V-C is A M Sheikh.
The phone numbers and website addresses of none of the universities, excepting GU,have been updated though the landline numbers of all the varsities have changed.
According to Raj Bhawan officials, the website is maintained by Gujarat State Wide Area Network, claiming to be an advanced communication infrastructure of the state government and hosting more than 250 website of the state government.
While Raj Bhawans IT cell in-charge was not available, media in-charge M M Sheikh said the process of updating the website was on.
