Protesting against the alleged arbitrary fee hike by HB Kapadia New High School in Memnagar, parents gathered at the school on Thursday morning, resulting in the school authorities rolling back the fee hike by Rs.1000.
It was after the District Primary Education Officer (DPEO),MM Jani, intervened that the school authorities agreed to roll back the fee hike and not compulsorily charge students for additional facilities like smart boards.
The school has agreed to roll back Rs 1000 from the fee. The parents should have contacted the concerned authorities and placed their
issue. The school has increased the annual fee from Rs 14,600 to Rs 15,910. After the roll back, the school will charge Rs 14,910, said Jani.
The school authorities claimed the fee hike of nearly 8.5% is within permissible limits of 10% by the education department.
However, the parents left the premises only after the school authorities assured the issue would be addressed and the final decision be communicated in a meeting scheduled on Monday.
The major problem among parents and authorities was the smart board facility.
This year, the school decided to make it compulsory for all students from pre-school till Class IX.
Though this facility was optional till last year, this year, students were asked to pay an additional Rs 1350 per year for the facility.
Today, after protest from parents, the management has decided to make this facility optional. A student who does not want this facility will not be forced to pay. But parents demand it should be offered free of cost to their children, said Renu Seth, principal of the English-medium section of the school.
The parents claim the school has been arbitrarily increasing school fee, charging additional for services including picnics, annual functions and group photos.
Despite charging so much fee,the school allows more than 60 students in a class. Also, they are not providing complete information with the break-up in the fee card,a parent said.
