Over Rs 43,600 cr spent on Sardar Sarovar Project

During this year's state budget, the govt has allocated an additional Rs 9000 crore for the Sardar Sarovar Project.

A phenomenal Rs 43,600 crore have already been spent on the Sardar Sarovar Narmada project, the state government informed the Gujarat Assembly on Monday.

“Till July 2014, a total of Rs 43,633.75 crore have been spent on the Narmada project,” the government stated in a written reply to an unstarred question from Congress MLA Gyasuddin Shaikh.

The government has targeted to complete this multi-state project by 2017-18.

The state government is also targeting to complete the pending works of minor and sub-minor canals as soon as possible, the reply added.

During this year’s state budget, the state government has allocated an additional Rs 9000 crore for the Sardar Sarovar Project.

In the on-going budget session of the Gujarat Assembly, the state government had stated that it has to recover Rs 5392 crore of pending dues from Rajasthan (Rs 500 cr), Maharashtra (Rs 1363 cr) and Madhya Pradesh (Rs 3528 cr) as part of the Narmada dam project.
