One killed in Upleta clash,12 arrested

AFTER a man was killed in clashes between two communities,12 persons belonging to minority community were arrested by police in Upleta town of Rajkot district on Thursday for rioting and assault.

AFTER a man was killed in clashes between two communities,12 persons belonging to minority community were arrested by police in Upleta town of Rajkot district on Thursday for rioting and assault.

“We have rounded up almost all the accused named in the complaint by relative of the victim,” Upleta Police Inspector Ranjitsinh Jadeja said.

Groups of Ahir and minority community had indulged in violence in GEB colony of the town around 8 pm on Wednesday after a tiff between two youths belonging to these communities,police said.

Many people were injured in stabbing and violence that followed. Police said while one Hitesh Maru (28) was stabbed to death on the spot,Pradip Solanki (25) was seriously injured and rushed to a private hospital in Rajkot for treatment. Solanki was still in hospital but his condition was out of danger,police said.

In his complaint,one Dinesh Solanki (52) accused one Haidar Miyana,his son,wife and 10 others of assaulting the former’s son Dinesh and eight others and murdering Maru.

However,in his cross complaint,Miyana’s son Haji accused Dinesh,his son Vijay and three others of assaulting him and his family members with swords and iron rods.

Upleta town has a mixed population but according to police,such incidents are rare in the town.

Ex-taluka development officer held for MGNREGA bungling

The retired taluka development officer (TDO) of Chotila taluka in Surendranagar district was arrested by Special Operation Group (SGO) of Surendrangar police on Wednesday after he surrendered in connection with a Rs 5 lakh alleged scam of misappropriating MGNREGA funds.

Dahybhai Vala,who retired as Chotila TDO in June last year,appeared at the office of the SOG in Surendranagar town on Wednesday morning. After arresting him,police produced Vala in the court of judicial magistrate (first class) in Chotila. The court sent him to 14-day judicial custody.
