Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) Inspector J D Purohit has been transferred to the Special Branch reportedly after he allegedly abused a senior DCB officer following a disagreement over a theft case.
Sources in the DCB said Purohit recently got into a fight with his boss over a case of theft of a centuries-old idol from a Mehsana temple, which he had investigated.
Purohit was the chief investigating officer of the SIT formed by the Gujarat Police for the case that had members from DCB of Mehsana,Gandhinagar and others.
According to sources,a fight for credit erupted between the SIT members after the case was solved. And when senior DCB officers tried to evaluate the performance, the matter turned worse. Purohit allegedly got into a squabble with a DCB officer and challenged his know-how in detection of criminal cases, they said, adding that Purohit went on to abuse his senior.

Later, the matter was reported to Ahmedabad Police Commissioner S K Saikia, who decided to transfer Purohit.
Purohit took charge in the Special Branch this week after remaining on leave for a few days after this incident.
A direct Sub-Inspector recruit of the 1990s,Purohit has been a key member of the DCB under his boss,Abhay Chudasama, who is now in jail in connection with the Sohrabuddin Sheikh encounter case.
After the Central Bureau of Investigation arrested Chudasama,Purohit had come under the scanner for allegedly destroying some records from Chudasama’s office in the DCB and illegally tapping phone calls of CBI officers to keep a track of his chiefs case.
