Even as the Chief Minister Anandiben Patel appealed to people to avoid a potential “class conflict”, members of the SC/ST and OBC community held a meeting in Vyara taluka of Tapi district on Thursday. They have threatened to launch a “Pratikar Rally” (counter rally) against Patidars’ Dandi Ekta Yatra scheduled to begin on September 19.
Members of SC/ST and OBC community will give memorandum to Mamlatdars, MLAs, and MPs from October 1, a top leader said.
The SC/ST and OBC Anamat Bachav Samiti leader and the president of Gujarat Kshatriya Thakor Sena, Alpesh Thakor, threatened to take out a Pratikar Rally against Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti’s (PAAS) Dandi Ekta Yatra scheduled to begin on September 19 from Dandi. Alpesh also announced that they will hold a public meeting of the Manch in Ahmedabad. Over one crore people belonging to SC/ST and OBC will participate in the meeting, he added.

After the public meeting in Vyara, Alpesh and his supporters addressed the mediapersons in Surat. “They (Patidars) are into ceramic, diamond and textile business, run education institutions, and are economically sound. How can they be included in OBC list. We want to know from the state government why they have given 10 days time, even after knowing that they cannot fulfill the demand of PAAS.
We have come to know that indirectly government is supporting them. In coming days we will stop industries being set up in Gujarat. We will not remain silent spectators. With the support of all SC/ST and OBC communities, we will protest. We are 85 percent (of the population) and we also have power,” Alpesh said.
Talking about the face of Patidar agitations- Hardik Patel, Alpesh Thakor said, “I know Hardik personally. He stays about eight kilometres from my residence. He is like my younger brother. He has no strength of his own to run such a big agitation. There are hidden forces who are supporting him. Gujarat is a (Hindutva) laboratory and those hidden forces want to see the outcome of such agitations and they will implement it nationally. We have prepared list of MLAs and MPs of those who are supporting Patidars and in coming elections we will ensure that such leaders go back home.”
Alpesh said, “If government gives them (PAAS) permission to take out Ekta Yatra, then we will also take out Pratikar rally. If they take out the rally without government permission then we will oppose their rally at different destinations. The SC/ST and OBC Anamat Bachav Samiti will organise 18 public meetings.”
