In a veiled dig at BJP president Rajnath Singhs appeal to the US government to grant visa to Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, senior party leader Murli Manohar Joshi on Thursday disapproved of Indian leaders pleading with a foreign government for visa.
It (visa) is not a matter between any political party and America. It is Americas right to grant visa, Joshi told reporters in response to a query whether a political party should appeal for granting of visa. Joshi claimed that Rajnath has not pleaded with the US government,to the best of my knowledge.
However,a press release issued by the BJP a couple of days ago had quoted Rajnath as appealing to the US government to reconsider the decision to deny visitor visa to Modi. It is ironical that on the one hand the report of the US Congress praises him for good governance and on the other, they deny him even a visitor visa. The US government should rethink and reconsider its decision, quoted the press release from Singhs address to Overseas Friends of BJP in New Jersey.
Joshi made light of queries regarding US visa to Modi pointing out that the Gujarat CM has not even applied for one. I do not think Modi has applied (for US visa), Joshi added.
He,however, supported the demand for probing into the issue of alleged fake signatures of MPs in a letter asking the US to deny visa to Modi.
It appears to be a case of misrepresentation through signatures. It should be inquired into, Joshi said.
