Chief Minister Narendra Modi once again attacked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday, saying the country under him was like a boat sailing without a captain.

Speaking in a voice gone completely hoarse after a marathon round of Vivekananda yatras and conventions stretching from Gondal in Rajkot,to Surat,Modi said,“The prime minister is either not saying anything or he does not want to speak or nothing is left for him to speak. Our country is like a boat sailing in the sea without a captain and we all will be drowned. No country in the world would be like this. But Gujarat is thinking in a different way and the way is development. And we can say that this is the way of Swami Vivekananda.”

Announcing a string of sops for students to make career choices,Modi said,“My throat had gone bad. I have been touring Gondal,Jetpur,Dhoraji… in Gondal I was barely able to speak for five minutes, but it is your enthusiasm here that I have been able to speak.”

Crowds, many of them wearing orange T-shirts with pictures of Modi, cheered and hooted as he announced how a student who did a two-year course from an Industrial Training Institute (ITI) after 8th standard, would be equivalent to 10th standard, and two years of ITI after 10th standard would be equivalent to 12th standard.

The students who had done two years of ITI after 10th standard would get admission in diploma engineering colleges and graduation colleges,Modi announced. “Our motive is to give choice base education to the students.”

The CM performed ground-breaking ceremonies of nearly 10 projects of the Surat Municipal Corporation worth Rs 963 crore, which included Rs 400-crore worth BRTS under JNNURM.

“When I came to power 11 years ago,the annual budget of Gujarat was Rs 6,000 crore and 15 days ago,I came to Surat and laid foundation of different projects worth Rs 1,300 crore. And today again I have come and laid the foundation of different projects worth Rs 963 crore. Imagine how Gujarat is growing and compare it to the Congress government,” he said.

Before Modi came on the stage,BJP state minority cell president and chairman of Gujarat State Haj Committee Mehbubali Chisty, also known as Mehbubali Bawa, was forced by police to leave the indoor stadium for some strange reason. He came back when Modi arrived.

An FIR was lodged against Chisty on Sunday at the Olpaad police station for allegedly making a derogatory remark against a section of Muslims. When contacted,Chisty said,“I have not said anything like that.”
