The Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Limited (SSNNL) is planning to give nearly 5,393 jobs to 1,200 villages under National Rural Employment Guarantees Act (NREGA) for this financial year. This will cost worth Rs 83 crore to the Nigam.
While the present plan is for four districts Vadodara,Panchmahals,Dahod and Narmada it might be extended to other command areas of SSNNL as well,sources said.
Meanwhile,SSNNL officials said the project focuses on de-silting the minor and sub-minor canals of SSNNL and removal of vegetation that block the flow of the water and weaken minor and sub-minor canals.
SSNNL Chairman N V Patel told Newsline,SSNNL has given several works related to maintenance and repairs for the minor and sub-minor canals this year. It is not just for these four districts but also other districts like Kheda,Gandhinagar,Ahmedabad and Surendranagar,which are in the command area.
SSNNL Managing Director Radhakant Tripathi said: The Nigam is planning for maintenance and repair works with the help of Water Users Association (WUA) which is there in every village. SSNNL will begin this project by November. At present,we wont be able to get labourers as all the villagers are busy in harvesting the crops.
Dahod District Rural Development Authority (DRDA) Director Ashok Sharma said: SSNNL and Sardar Sarovar Puna Vashat (SSPA) have planned 65 works worth Rs 69 lakh this year. Most of the works are related to maintenance and small repairs. We have checked that the work assigned to these villagers doesnt overlap with other agencies. SSNNL had submitted these projects and they have been approved by DRDA.
Similarly,in Vadodara nearly 1,014 works worth Rs 8 crores have been planned,sources said.
