The state government on Wednesday announced that it will compensate farmers as per the new jantri rates if they give their land for the remaining part of the Narmada Canal project. The new rates were introduced last month.
Government spokesperson and state Health Minister Jaynarayan Vyas told reporters after the state Cabinet meeting here that the government will also give additional 30 per cent of the total payable amount as solecism compensation to the farmers.
He said a total of 21,671 hectors will be acquired for the canal project under the new compensation policy. The decision will benefit 86,132 farmers from eight districts Ahmedabad,Surendranagar,Bhavnagar,Rajkot,Kutch,Banaskantha,Patan and Mehsana Vyas said,adding that 55,395 farmers who have already given 10,183 hectors land,will be paid arrears based on the new rates.
The minister said that as per the old rate,the government was supposed to pay Rs 500 crore to acquire 21,671 hector land. Now,the government will have to pay Rs 1,270 crore. This money will be credited directly to the farmers accounts.
