The BJP has appointed presidents and vice-presidents of 41 local bodies where it had won with majority following elections held in early February. Out of 63 nagarplikas that had gone to polls, the BJP gained straight control in 41 and five with support from others, said a party release issued by state BJP spokesman Indravijaysinhji Jadeja late on Tuesday.
The party also appointed presidents and vice-presidents in Valsad,Kheralu,Jetpur,Shihor and Jhalod nagarpalikas where it did not have a clear majority but won these palikas with outside supports. A party release said office-bearers on two nagarpalikas in Navsari district, four in the Panchmahals and six in Kheda district would be appointed on a later date, the release said.
This leaves the Congress with control in nine nagarpalikas, others with three and Independents groups with six nagarpalikas, the release claimed.
