At least 40 passengers were injured when a private bus on way to Mumbai from Dungarpur in Rajasthan fell off the Jambuva Bridge near Vadodara on Tuesday evening. The bus fell from the 35-foot high bridge into the dry Jambuva river.
No deaths were recorded when reports last came in,but authorities at the Sir Sayajirao General Hospital said four to five passengers including the driver of the bus are in a critical condition. According to the Makarpura police,the bus (RJ 09 P 6633) carried more than 60 passengers. It is also learnt that 25 passengers were from the same family.
Premchand Jain,a passenger at the SSG Hospital,told The Indian Express: We did not know what happened,but the bus suddenly fell off the bridge. Some of the passengers got out of it by using sarees and other clothes.
Another passenger,Shankar Sarpota,who runs a tea-stall in Mumbai,said,The driver lost control of the vehicle when he tried to overtake another four-wheeler.
