The MS University will issue a single bar-coded identity card to all its existing and new students to be used to access all places and facilities offered by the varsity, in what is seen as an effort in the direction of creating a centralised database of the students.
The bar-coded laminated plastic photo identity card will be issued to the students by the end of August. So far, individual faculties would issue identity cards to students either in bar-coded card format or through the conventional card issue system.
Also, the students required a different card for each year of their study and for accessing the library system and services. The multiple identity card formats resulted into confusions and difficulties at times in the conduct of exams as well as in tracking students’ data, the MSU stated in a press release issued Sunday. The new photo identity card will help in retrieving data of the students through the bar code reader.
