The five MSU students had allegedly forced a junior to perform obscene acts
A local court here granted bail to five M S University students accused of ragging their junior in the Department of Architecture,Faculty of Technology and Engineering,on Monday.
Nisha Panchal,Vivek Panchal,Kunal Patel,Parth Patel and Nirmal Shah,all students of third year at the department,were produced in a magisterial court Monday afternoon. After Sayajigunj police,who are investigating the case,did not seek their custody,the court ordered release of accused students on bail.
Sayajigunj police had arrested the five on Sunday night after they surrendered before police.
“Since the offence is bailable,we did not seek their remand and they were released on bail,” Sayajigunj police inspector AB Saiyad said.
The five,along with Prof Mayur Gupta,a reader in the department,have been booked for criminal intimidation and wrongful confinement for allegedly ragging Harshvardhan Sutariaya,a student of first year.
The accused students had allegedly forced Sutariya to do obscene acts on the premises of the department,while Prof Gupta is also alleged to have passed objectionable remarks about ragging incident and not paying attention to complaint of the victim.
Sutariaya’s father Ramesh Sutariya had lodged the complaint with Sayajigunj police on last Wednesday naming the six as accused.
Incidentally,Prof Gupta was also arrested on Saturday and was released on bail.
Police have sent an alleged CD of a ragging incident to Forensic Science Laboratory in Gandhinagar for analysis. The CD purportedly shows male students being made to dance by wearing clothes of girls.
