Arguing for bail before the Gujarat High Court in the Morbi bridge collapse case, Oreva Group MD and key accused Jaysukh Patel Tuesday submitted that while he can be accused of negligence, the charge of culpable homicide is a stretch as there was no intention on his part to cause the death of 135 persons who died in the collapse.

Senior advocate Nirupam Nanavaty, on behalf of Jaysukh, also pointed out that six other co-accused — three security guards, two ticketing clerks and a manager at Oreva Group — have already been granted bail in the case. A total of 10 people have been slapped with culpable homicide, among other charges.
