In an incident of “mob justice”, a group of people mercilessly thrashed 26-year-old Hamid Khan Pathan for allegedly “stalking and molesting” a 22-year-old Hindu collegian at Sussen crossroad in Makarpura on Tuesday morning. The mob, comprising onlookers and the girl’s family, thrashed Pathan for “persistently stalking” the girl and trying to “lure her into a relationship”.
Makarpura police rescued Pathan from the mob and began investigations into the case, during which it was learnt that the girl was in fact friendly with Pathan, and had voluntarily called him to the spot.
The incident occurred on Tuesday morning, when the girl’s family thrashed him for “stalking” the girl on her way to college. The girl’s family had alleged that Pathan had known them since their time in Baradi village, Uttar Pradesh, and had arrived in Vadodara in search of work.
A police officer said that the family insisted on registering a complaint of molestation against Pathan as he had “misused their friendly relations to lure” their daughter. They also alleged that on Tuesday, Pathan grabbed her hand on the street without her consent and forcibly dragged her, which was when the friend accompanying the girl alerted the family.
