A family of five from Ahmedabad had a miraculous escape seconds before their luxury sports utility vehicle (SUV) went up in flames after colliding with a truck near Bilodara in Gujarat’s Kheda district on the Ahmedabad-Vadodara Mahatma Gandhi Expressway-1 on Sunday morning.
The expressway traffic from Vadodara to Ahmedabad was held up for about 20 minutes until the fire was brought under control, and an express highway patrolling team rescued the family.

The incident occurred around 9 am, when a family of five from Naranpura in Ahmedabad was returning after attending a wedding in Chhota Udepur. The SUV in which the family was travelling collided with the rear of a truck that suddenly braked. Officials of the highway patrolling team said that the impact of the collision was reduced since the SUV’s driver had been alert and attempted to slow down, thereby saving the family. The hood of the vehicle was heavily damaged in the accident.

As the SUV began to emit smoke, the family immediately stepped out of the vehicle, seconds before it went up in flames. The highway patrol team arrived at the spot within minutes, restricting traffic movement on one side of the expressway for about 20 minutes until the Nadiad civic body’s Fire and Emergency response team arrived and brought the fire under control. Officials said the traffic movement resumed once the fire was brought under control.

More details are awaited.
