Advertising brains at MICA recently put their classroom lessons to good use to come up with a communication package for Ahmedabad district administration.
In a first,District Collector Vijay Nehra and District Development Officer (DDO) Banchha Nidhi Pani collaborated with 24 students of the institutes CCC (Crafting Creative Communications) course to move from the existing government advertisements to new ones. The students were given themes like how to eradicate malnourishment and mass defecation, bringing better sanitation, implementation of PCPNDT Act (that prohibits pre-natal sex determination) and improve the functioning of group panchayats.
Come September and the villages of Ahmedabad will have shiny new posters made by MICA students in a months time. They made a total of 39 posters,an ad jingle on education,a video on PCPNDT Act and a comic strip on Mission Mangalam that looks at improving economic activity of rural women, said Pani.
The DDO took the students on a field visit to 18 villages near Ahmedabad so that they could get first-hand experience of rural Ahmedabad. This is a good addition to their work portfolio as well. Although we have worked with government agencies before,it was never taken up on such a large scale, said a spokesperson from MICA.
Considering the quality of work that has emerged,I am also planning to hand over branding of campaigns on traffic rules, voting and proper use of water to them, Pani said.
The students have crafted the communication both in English and Gujarati and have worked for free.
